Being a primary carer and having a new business was & is a massive challenge to say the least, especially financially.

At the 3 years mark the business was enjoying a great reputation, as well as a good client list which gave our business a chance to build upon our next move – into commercial properties.

Coming into the 5^th year, now our business is looking very positive, and ready to focus on expanding our fleet & business ideas.

Sandgroper Services is a family business owned & operated in Western Australia. We look forward to a promising future servicing our clients and the broader community.

Our Story

Hi, I’m Dave. Owner & Director of Sandgroper Services and a born and bred Fremantle native.

My first 21 years of life were fanatically dedicated to Motocross racing.

Growing up, our family owned a scrap recycling plant, which initially piqued my interest in machinery, cranes, and rigging, which were everywhere.

By the time I was 27, I had moved away to become a professional Fisherman. Initially, wetlining, charters, Fisheries research, draglines, and then 10 seasons of Crayfishing in areas from Kalbarri to Mandurah. A love of the ocean and fishing, especially around the Abrolhos islands, has made me into what I am today.

At the age of 36, I changed tack and moved into the offshore oil and gas industry as a Rigger, Crane operator, and deckhand. After another 10 years of the FIFO life away from Freo, I decided it was time to come home.

After settling down and having a daughter to look after, I felt there was a need for a career change.

So…I bought a 12T Tom Thumb crane & started Sandgroper Cranes. The rest is history…
